Description Family Asteraceae Originating from N. America and Canada. Planted in drifts of swaying stems, bearing richly coloured blooms, there are few plants that epitomise summer prairie gardens and herbaceous borders like the Purple Coneflower. Their elongated oval, bright cerise petals surround a cone-shaped deep burgundy and orange-coloured mass of stamens, making a rich two-tone, high-impact contribution to planting schemes. Its herbaceous stems bear large pointed deep green leaves, making the perfect backdrop for the flowers. Any passing pollinator will make a beeline for their flowers. Easy to grow in light thin soil in full sun or light shade. Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 1m x 50cm.
