Description Family Lamiaceae Garden origin Our favourite Hyssop with deeply coloured flowers borne on reliably upright herbaceous stems, bearing deep green arrow-shaped leaves. All parts of the plant are deeply aromatic with an aniseed-infused minty aroma. The beautiful flower spikes are crowded with many individual tubular blooms and are rich purple, lasting from mid-summer to late autumn. They emerge from deeper, dusky purple bracts, giving the whole flower spike a slightly two-tone richness of colour. Making a dense low-level clump, it is invaluable for planting near the front of borders in light, poor soil in full sun. Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 1m x 50cm.
