Description Lavender (Lavandula) is a flowering plant from the mint family, native to the Mediterranean. People widely cultivate it for its fragrant flowers and essential oils, which they use in aromatherapy, teas, and beauty products. Always considered a magical herb, although its uses have changed throughout time. People frequently hung it above doorframes to prevent evil spirits from entering buildings. People believed having lavender in the home or bathing in it would prevent “evil fits” from occurring. Known by the ancient Greeks as a ‘witches’ herb. It was used for attracting and deepening love, fertility, peace, calming, protection, success, and attaining money. Useful in spells to sharpen the mind, it relaxes and uplifts all at once making it wonderful for stressed out or depressed individuals. Alleged to help insomniacs fall asleep and soothes headaches. Carrying a sachet or charm bag containing lavender can help grant one love, peace and good health. Added to dream pillows and charm bags will attract good dreams and benevolent spirits. Use lavender stalks and bundles as asperging (sprinkling) tools for ritual purification, or burn them as incense On the religious holiday St. John’s Day, the Spanish and Portuguese would throw it onto the floor of their church or in a bonfire to ward off evil spirits.
